Huh?
Cleanliness is next to godliness. Well, I started to research the root of the phrase, to find out how true it is. But, I decided to just share what I think of when I hear that saying.

When I look at creation, I see order. I can see how God created us to live on a planet that’s in just the right proximity to the sun and the moon. He created small little cells in chemistry to satisfy the cravings of our bodies that we may live abundantly. I see that God created the stars to give us light at night, and clouds to wonder at and water us. God in His vast amazing wisdom has gifted us the most beautiful planet, and it all works according to His Word. The disruption, of course came in the garden with the introduction of sin. But, still. Despite the effects of sin, the Universe is still in amazing order. This is what I think of when I hear “cleanliness is next to godliness” God is a god of order. He works according to His character, which is cleansing us of unrighteousness, purifying our hearts, delighting in us, and maintaining equilibrium and balance in our lives.

I believe that when I take authority over my life and submit it to cleanliness, and order I am acting as Jesus would. Not allowing frantic thoughts or chaos to disrupt my peace. But, just resting in the knowledge that God is keeping me in “order”, and I’m keeping myself as much as I can in order too.
