Have you ever head of the term body doubling?
This is a common term used among people who have ADHD/ADD tendencies or diagnosis. However, I have found that it is useful for ANY one to know about. The basic idea is to have another person present while working on a task, whether in-person or even virtually. To summarize, it feels like accountability and/or motivation. Here are some tasks you can do with a friend that might make the task more fun, focused, and fly by!
Taking a walk
Folding Laundry
Meal prepping
Cleaning/Organizing
Wrapping presents
Just thing of any task that could be easy to do with someone else around, and you can try body doubling.
This is one of the many reasons I believe hiring a professional organizer can be so beneficial. Having someone to listen while you just verbally process and make decisions, or just share about life while doing mindless tasks is so powerful.
And, don’t worry if you’re more introverted, your “body double” doesn’t have to always talk or listen. Even just starting a Zoom chat and agreeing to work silently while the other person does too is also something people find success with.
